Shots rang out in downtown Dallas on the night of July 7th. Twelve officers and one civilian were shot when shots were fired from an elevated structure. Five those officers died from their injuries. The police cornered an individual named Micah Xavier Johnson, a 25 year old army veteran. After attempting to negotiate with him, police were forced to use a bomb robot to terminate him. After reports of the possibility of there being multiple shooters, Dallas police later confirmed that Johnson was the lone shooter (Karimi, Shoichet, Ellis).

A variety of news stories are written or formatted by one person, and released to various other news outlets. If that one person is indeed bias, he has just shared his opinion with thousands or more people. Of course having an opinion is not a bad thing at all; however, it is a larger stake when a multitude of people can’t see that this is simply your opinion and they take what you say as facts it can have a large negative effect on people.
The media, in some cases, is the only source of information that people have. It is a major influence in people’s lives and their perspectives in particular. Even when media spreads false or true information people will adhere to it. As common people, we will never really know if we are getting the truth. We can’t believe everything we are told.
