I came across a wide range of patients with varying degrees of disorders particularly, childhood developmental disabilities, neuro communication disorders, neuro degenerative disorders and special needs population such as Autism Spectrum disorders (ASD), Down’s syndrome, Learning disability and Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (AD/HD). My clinical experiences have enriched my knowledge in the field and taught me how to integrate that knowledge into clinical practice. Furthermore, after coming to the United States, I was able to volunteer in nursing homes, hospitals and private speech-language therapy clinics which further my interests in the field. These involvements have enhanced my level of compliance and professionalism with clients, families and other health care professionals. This article describes a living skills program tailored to adults living with developmental disabilities and the benefits direct occupational therapy services can provide for this population. Implementation of the program occurred in a group home setting that served eight clients in the Boston area. Prior to implementation, clients received individualized occupational therapy treatment with a focus on sensorimotor techniques and minimal life skills training. The program’s primary objective was to increase clients’ responsibility in their lives by allowing them full discretion at determining the course of the program. As a front line worker with people with developmental disabilities, I have noticed that in all the agencies I have worked, they are usually more careful when handling their clients’ medication administration issues. These agencies strive hard to ensure that clients are not overmedicated, missing medication doses and given wrong medication. The occurrence of any of these can lead to client’s death, deterioration in their health condition, as well as spelling harsh consequences for the staff who is responsible for the medication error. The agency’s license can be revoked if medication errors is rampant.
