I’m currently employed by Quest Diagnostic here in Tucker, Georgia. Quest Diagnostics is a national recognized reference laboratory with multiple locations here in the U.S. Our facility here in Tucker performs laboratory services for numerous healthcare providers and other reference labs throughout the state of Georgia as well as a number of other states throughout the country. Since each state has its own licensure laws and regulations, Quest Diagnostics maintains licensures for several different states it performs laboratory services for (Wager, Lee, Glaser & 2013). So, if a specimen is collected in another state and sent over to Quest here in Georgia, the reported results and testing information would still be subjected to the rules and regulations of its …show more content…
Because of CAP rigorous and comprehensive accreditation standards certain states allows Quest to forgo licensure requirements. This mainly because CAP requires laboratories go well beyond the expectations of their own state’s requirements for laboratory testing. Other states however, such as Florida, West Virginia, Maryland etc require state licensure regardless of accreditation status (Wager, Lee & Glaser 2013). Quest also holds a certificate of accreditation from the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) which was also issued based on its (CAP) accreditation status (Wager, Lee & Glaser 2013). This certification grants Quest the authority to participate in CMS reimbursement programs. This certification is extremely important not only to Quest but other health care providers because CMS programs account for almost half of health care funding. Quest also maintains controlled substance certificate from the US department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration allowing them to write prescriptions for controlled

On behalf of our member companies, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) writes to request a meeting to discuss the importance of fair and accurate reimbursement for community pharmacies for specialty drugs. As we previously noted, addressing both the cost of the drug product and the cost of dispensing is critical to maintaining patient access to Medicaid pharmacy services, especially when considering the increasing cost of providing specialty drugs and services to the Medicaid population. We are requesting this meeting to speak to you to discuss possible options for CMS to provide further direction and/or guidance to the states in this policy area. We believe that if adequate direction and/or guidance is not provided, states will adopt insufficient reimbursement rates and dispensing fees for specialty drugs resulting in below-cost reimbursement for participation pharmacies.…

When your facility gets accredited by the official organization the stakeholders are ensured that the facility meets a set of standards in quality and safety.
