Lydia Kamakaeha, more formally known as Queen Liliuokalani, was a person who inspired so many, and did so much good in her life to help her people, and was extremely influential in the history of Hawaii. She was the first female monarch in the Kingdom of Hawaii and was also the last ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaii before her kingdom was forced from her and her people. Lydia was also an artist who wrote many songs; which are popular songs to this day. Lydia Kamakaeha was born on September 2, 1838 to parents Kapaakea and Keohokalole. She was born in Honolulu; where her parents worked as advisors to the king- King Kamehameha III. At birth, she was adopted by a man named Abner Paki and his wife; Konia. This adoption was common in the Kingdom of Hawaii because the adoption of a child cemented relationships between two high-ranking families. Abner Paki’s wife Konia was one of King Kamehameha I’s grandchildren. However, Liliuokalani told them to wait and be patient, and they did not listen to her words of wisdom. A revolt to restore power to the monarchy was launched by Robert Wilcox and was soon stopped by the government set in place by Dole and the Committee of Safety. Liliuokalani and a bunch of her followers were placed under house arrest for leading a revolt opposing the new government. She told them that she had no part in the uprising, but was still placed in a room on the second floor of the Iolani Palace for almost an entire year.
