Queen Elizabeth's Speech To Motivate Her Troops

In the heart of war, you are able to see the strong leaders from the weak ones. You are able to see those who can lead armies and countries to victory. Queen Elizabeth gave her speech to motivate her troops to win and she did this by her imagery and diction. Battles aren’t won by those who lack confidence, they are won by those who truly believe they can win. Queen Elizabeth tried to make her troops more confident so they were able to win.
All speeches are given for a specific purpose whether the purpose is for good or for bad. Queen Elizabeth gave her speech in the midst of a battle against a powerful army. She was trying to give her army motivation to fight and to win. Queen Elizabeth accomplished this purpose by saying, “in the midst and

Queen Elizabeth’s speech was powerful because of the way she used imagery, diction, and ethos to achieve her purpose of motivating her troops. Queen Elizabeth used imagery when she said, “that you have deserved rewards and crowns.” This helped achieve her purpose of motivating her troops by showing them what they could receive if they won the war. This particular use of imagery helped paint a picture of the fame they could obtain if they won which would motivate her troops to defeat the powerful army and they would be able to obtain the rewards and crowns. Queen Elizabeth’s purpose was achieved by showing her troops what they life could be if they won the war which would give them a reason to fight. Most important of the resources of language is Queen Elizabeth’s use of diction. You can see this when she says, “I know I have but the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart of a king…” Queen Elizabeth’s excellent use of word choice is seen in the words “heart of a king” because it shows her troops that she will never give up until she dies or until she is victorious. Her use of diction helps her achieve her purpose because it shows her troops that if she is willing to fight, then they should be willing to fight as well.
