The students were told about the study being conducted before they filled out the questionnaire. There was no penalty for students who did not participate in the study or those who have opted out during taking the questionnaire. For those who participated, they clicked on a link that was posted in the PSY 510/520 student lounge which brought them to Qualtrics. Qualtrics was the survey software used for the purpose of the given questionnaire. Using the qualtrics survey software helped protect the identity of the students who participated in the survey questionnaire. The purpose of the questionnaire was to get enough data to back up the hypothesis: “Does a past of childhood abuse increase the risk of self-harm in adulthood?” The survey questionnaire
