Jacklyn H. Lucas a Marine in World War II was patrolling Iwo Jima ravine when the Japanese attacked throwing two Grenades into Lucas’s position. He proceeded to shove the Grenades under ashes and threw himself on top of them, some how managing to survive. It is incredible that he did not even think twice about the fact that he was likely to die. Jacklyn Lucas was willing to sacrifice his life to protect his peers. Alexi Ananenko, Valeri Bezpoalov and Boris Baronov did the same. They were three members of a clean up crew who accepted their fate when a pool of water used for emergencies became flooded with a highly radioactive liquid that was in danger of blowing up. They suited up in scuba gear and opened a gate valve which allowed the radioactive waters to drain. They knowingly sacrificed their lives for others. In both of these scenarios, there would have been a horrific disaster, without these brave men who displayed incredible
