Qualities of a Leader Many people throughout the years have been forced to take up a position of Leadership or embrace it. Either the case it is a feat that inherits huge amount of responsibility. However, not everybody who have taken up the position as leader were able to deliver. A good leader requires but is not limited to a person who is trustworthy, skilled, fearless, compassionate, forward thinking and caring. In the poem The Odyssey by Homer Translated by Robert Fagle, talks about Odysseus and the many trials he and his men faced as they travel back to their homeland of Ithaca after the Trojan war. The reader begins to respect and understand Odysseus due to his character and how his crew/companions view him throughout his journey.

Originating from this quote, this is where the emotional aspect comes into play as well as it somewhat touches the reader. With all his wisdom and strength he is helpless to help his men and thus it pains him to just stand still and do nothing. Again we see that leadership quality in Odysseus, a leader is supposed to be emotionally tied to those who follow them. He understands that the men place their trust and lives in his hand and likewise he knows that the greatest responsibility a leader can have is the lives of their own men. Understand that social responsibility isn’t an easy feat when it comes to being a leader. When appointed leadership that person for the most part practice the social aspect of this position. Most of the time when a person is able to convey his/her ideas to the people or communicate well with the people around them they help create a universal understanding, which in turn leads to a connection with both the leader and his/her subordinates. In light of making the correct decision not to inform the crew of the creature that await them ahead, fearing that it will only lead to anarchy. As a leader you want to let your men know what they are about to deal with; you want to show that you 're still trustworthy to them. However, Odysseus already saw the crew in disarray even before he and his men met the creature. As a result, he choose not to tell them because he places himself in their shoes for a moment and realizes that the truth will be to hard for them to handle. A leader understands this and realizes something are meant to be kept secret in order to maintain balance and
