I believe a good quality that every leader should have is a good dream. Martin Luther King Jr. for example was a great leader because he had a dream that others could relate to. He wanted blacks to be treated equally, and with his “I have a dream” Speach it helped pass the dream along. You also need to be good at convincing people to agree with your side. If no one wants to vote for your side then your not a good leader.…

The artistic outlooks of both McKay and Jackson portray power and greed. The theme that both the poem and painting support is: too much power and greed will always lead to destruction. In McKay’s poem, “Birds of Prey”, the birds represent greed and their victims represent destruction. Similarly, in Jackson’s painting, “Man Eats World”, the man eating the earth represents power and the earth itself represents destruction. What is more, symbolism plays a colossal role in both the painting and poem as well.…

President Obama could have held back foreign aid until Israel agreed to end the ongoing issue with Palestine and give back the land that belonged to Palestine. President Obama’s Hypocrisy President Barack Hussein Obama is the forty fourth president of the United States elected in 2008 and he is the first president, under the constitution, of African descent. He worked his way up from the Illinois State Senate to the US Senate and was officially sworn in as president on January 20, 2009. Given his background in politics, logically, people assumed that he was a responsible, trustworthy candidate for president; however, his actions prove otherwise. His past work does not stand for his mental ability to run and decide for a country. Instead of his idea of “hope” and “change”, his presidency has brought the United States to the brink of ruin.…

Rick Shenkman seems to know seems to know just how to grab the readers’ attention in his book, Just How Stupid Are We? Facing the Truth About the American Voter. While most readers may disagree with his central arguments, I agree with him. I do believe that, as a whole society, the American people are very uninformed when it comes to politics, government, or any other relatively “uninteresting” topics. It seems as though the American people could actually care less about what is happening in our government and whether the people in power are taking advantage of our ignorance.…

Incivility is not a new topic in American politics, in fact, it has continued to get worse over the years. In “The Negative Consequences of Uncivil Political Discourse” Sandy Maisel states that the “lack of civility has led to the decline in citizen approval of trust in our institutions of government” (Maisel 405). Maisel discusses the impact of incivility and how it can sway the public opinion to doubt the way politics are being handled. He discussing about how uncivil outbursts are not what cause concern, it is the lack of action, since politicians use this as a strategy to obtain more supporters and votes (Maisel 405). Maisel believes those who pursue the common good do so in a civil manner because civility is necessary to have an effective…

Since 1776, Americans have been fighting the authorities that wrongfully instate unjust laws and practices; freedom is the very foundation on which the country was built. Human nature urges people to fight to change what they do not condone, and enlightenment thinkers have argued that citizens have a right to overthrow any authority that displeases them. It can be patriotic to protest one’s government due to the possible immorality of leaders and that the core of a country is its people, not its rules. The incompetency found in some political leaders can lead to poorly-made and unjust laws.…
