Who is one that is on a quest, performs brave deeds, is someone with superior/super human strengths and intelligent or courageous, and is significant or glorified? His name is Beowulf, and he is an epic hero! Beowulf was known as the greatest warrior of his time. He fought and killed numerous amounts of dragons, monsters, and mystical creatures. He never lost a battle or challenge and everyone knew his name. Beowulf exemplifies the archetypal epic hero in four ways His characteristics show he is on a quest, performs brave deeds, has superior/ super human strength and is intelligent and courageous, and is significant and glorified. I think the biggest epic hero quality that Beowulf exemplifies is he was always on a quest. The biggest and first quest Beowulf went on was his quest to kill the mead hall monster whose name was Grendel. The king had had trouble with Grendel coming into the mead hall in the middle of the night and killing every person who had passed out, except the king because his throne was protected by God, for many years. Beowulf was significant because he was the only one who could kill Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon. Many people had tried to kill these monsters before Beowulf but all had failed. In return for Beowulf killing Grendel and his mother he was given the kingdom. Then when he killed the dragon he was glorified be having a statue built from all his stuff and sat on the edge of the island so everyone that passed knew that was the island of Beowulf, the greatest warrior of all time. As we can see Beowulf defiantly is a great example of an epic hero because of everything he did in his life. How he was always on a quest, and always performed brave deeds.
