The history of social welfare in Canada has shaped the social work profession over the past century. York university recognizes that to make progress moving forward, one must analyze the past and make changes accordingly. Acknowledging the historical and cultural context of certain events is one of the key components of York University’s dominant framework of critical practice. Sociological Perspectives in the Work field One position that I have filled in society is being a crew member at a Wendy’s fast food restaurant. I want to show just what functional analysis, symbolic interactionism, and conflict theory are, and how they fit into this role. Functionalism is the idea that every part of something has a purpose. Whether this be society as a whole, a motor to a car, or, in this case, a job, functionalism gives purpose to every individual. Functionalism is important as a fast food employee because it shows how each person must operate properly in their role for the restaurant to run smoothly.…

Early identification of paternity, fathers’ involvement in the early years, activity-based programs for fathers and children, programs involving fathers and others, and context-specific interventions. (Richter, et al., 2012) These interventions can help the father to become more involved within the lives of their children, which will be beneficial for all involved. However these interventions are not the only way to make the situation better.…

The Father plays an important role in the family, whether he is present in the home or not. An absent father makes as important an impact than an active father in the home. There are an estimated 64.3 million fathers across the nation and 24 million children live absent from their biological fathers (Statistics). Integrative Theory Paper It is important for social workers to hold, in high regard, all social work practice principles and values defined by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). When thinking about how I, as a social worker, will integrate my personal values with social work theoretical models and social work practice principles, the values or principles that I personally tend to put more emphasis on are: dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, and integrity. To me, these are imperative elements of social work practice that I would like to keep at the forefront of my mind while working in cohesion with clients. The value of dignity and worth of the person states that “social workers respect the…

Design of the Study Qualitative studies aim to look into the quality of relationships, activities, situations, or materials (Fraenkel & Wallen, 2009). According to Merriam (2009), the focus of qualitative research is the process, meaning, and understanding, and the researcher plays an important role as the primary instrument of data collection and analysis, which is inductive (p. 266). Moreover, Bogdan and Biklen (2007) describe five characteristics of qualitative research: • The natural setting is the direct source of data, and the researcher is the key instrument in qualitative research. • Qualitative data are collected the form of words or pictures rather than numbers.…
