The Category Scheme
As stated in the above paragraph of this critique. The scheme is described and appears logical and complete. A manual method, the manifest qualitative content analysis, was used to organize the data. There is not overlapping or redundancy in the categories. Three categories were identified from the analysis, which contribute to patient safety and contentedness during nursing activities that affect patient’s feelings of confidence in living with a PICC line (Alpenberg et al., 2015, p. 123).

The strategies were used judiciously and for the good effect of improving PICC line care. Alpenberg et al. addressed, “Therefore, evidence-based knowledge about central venous access is needed to improve quality of care and increase patients’ security and contentedness in central venous access care in the future (2015, p.124). In regards to scientific rigor, this study’s report is valid since it is a qualitative phenomenology research, and its study of lived experience is contextual. Thus, no generalizations can be made (Fain, 2013, p. 248). Fain (2013) added, “It is the nature of the research rather than a limitation of the method (p.248).” Furthermore, the report adequately addressed the transferability when the author stated, “The study’s validity could be discussed due to its limitation, and further studies are needed to develop knowledge about PICC line during chemotherapy treatment (Alpenberg et al., 2015, p.124).
Limitations, Credibility, and Implications for Clinical Practice
Limitation in the number of participants was remarked by the author under the discussion section by saying that only ten interviews were collected and analyzed. But, credibility of the data is not affected by this since this is an accurate description of the participants’ own experience through interview with
