The sample included Registered nurses and social workers. The criteria for participation included: (1) occupation as a Registered nurse, physician or social worker; and (2) Currently working at any of the outpatient clinics at the institution. The invitation to take part in the study was extended to physicians and social workers because of the multidisciplinary approach used in the clinics and expertize these professions have in related to nursing work (McCabe & Holmes, 2013).
Data Collection Data was collected at an urban pediatrics rehabilitation facility in Canada over a period of four months in 2009. The authors collected the data using semi-structured interview with the participants, description and focused observation of the environment, collecting and analysis of documentary evidence and discussion with key informants. Each participates’ interview lasted on average of 45-60mins. Documentary evidence used contained information about job description, institutional policy and nursing notes (McCabe & Holmes, 2013).
Data Analysis The data was analyzed using coding, critical discourse analysis and development of analytic categories. Coding is linking raw data to theoretical concepts. Critical discourse analysis was used to evaluate transcripts, field notes and documentary evidence.
