Summary of Findings
Based on the results of Chapter Four, themes emerged from data collected and analyzed answering the following research questions of this qualitative case study. Research Question 1: What factors contribute to the failure of a non-residential single-parent student’s persistence in higher education? Discussion
The main focus of this study is the absence of persistence among non-residential single parent students. While there have been a great deal of quantitative research done on residential single parent students in regard to retention and attrition rates at four year colleges and universities, the amount of qualitative research done on non-residential single parent students has been very limited. This chapter will discuss the study findings in relationship to the empirical and theoretical literature reviewed in Chapter Two.
