Introduction
The purpose of this report is to evaluate assessment data collected using a quiz that was administered to community college students. The population consisted of 36 students that were officially enrolled in my economics course and that participated in a quiz. The quiz consisted of 10 multiple-choice questions, with four possible solutions per question. In order to receive credit for an answer, each student must identify the correct option and shade the corresponding answer in a scantron. All students were given 15 minutes to complete and submit the quiz to the instructor.
I reviewed the information in the chapter during class and gave them a week to prepare themselves for the quiz. The questions were similar in difficulty

In addition, I manipulated the data by sorting questions that were answered correctly in descending order from highest to lowest.
Once the data was organized, I noticed that question one and two were answered correctly by the majority of students. Question nine and four were answered correctly by half of all students and seemed to be the most difficult questions in the quiz. This brings me to my first finding that not all questions had the same difficulty. Additional research is needed to uncover the reason or reasons why some questions were more or less difficult
After analyzing the performance of each student, I found it interesting how student #36 was able to correctly answer all of the most difficult questions, but failed to answer a question that seemed to be less difficult. Student #18 was also able to get many of the most difficult questions correct, but failed to identify the answers to less challenging questions. In contrast student #7 seems as if he/she is not capable of answering difficult questions, but the student remarkably got the most difficult question right. It was very good to know that two students were able to get all of the questions in the quiz correct and that seven simply missed one question in the quiz. One of the most disheartening findings was that one

Standardized “... tests have tended to lean heavily on easily scorable multiple-choice questions that stress memory rather than understanding” (Jehlen, 1). So, when a child or teen takes these tests it does not matter if they understand what they’re doing, just as long as they got the right answer. This is completely unacceptable, they need to be tested over their understanding of a…

The entirety of the class had a much lower average on exam #4, which happened toward the end of the sticker challenge. Also, during the jeopardy game played before that exam, the group that did the best by far was the one with no sticker challenge participants. I suggest that this is caused by a combination of a lack of note-taking skills and failure to comprehend the material while I was taking notes on it. Instead of thinking about the actual subject, I was only thinking about my notes because I was worried about taking satisfactory ones.…

Patrick O’Malley in his article “More Testing, More Learning” states that frequent testing helps students better remember every topic they have covered since they can learn from their mistakes. Also, frequent testing helps students better organize the learning process and they will have less stress at the end of the school year or semester. I think O’Malley is right because if after every, there was would be a small test or quiz, it could help them to find their mistakes and misunderstandings in the subjects before the final exam. INTASC Standards: 8, 9 Standard #8 - “The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social and physical development of the learner (Henson, 2009).” As a teacher it is important to use a variety of assessments to evaluate and ensure that students understand and are learning the content presented in the classroom. In addition to giving traditional assessments such as a quiz, exam or paper, alternatives that will be provided include group assessments, self-assessment, portfolios, observations and performance assessments. By applying varied assessment methods a check for understanding of a student’s knowledge will be better assessed since there are limitations with different types of evaluations.…
