Qualitative research has gradually become a more prominent and accepted research paradigm as time has progressed. Unlike the quantitative paradigm, such a research ‘seeks a depth of information and attempts to gain understanding and insight related to the meaning that individuals give to their experiences’ (Thomas W. Kaminski, 2004). The tendency of qualitative research to be subjective and contextual as opposed to generalizable makes it subject to question regarding its trustworthiness. The concept of validity in such a research cannot be tested and defined in the premises that quantitative work is defined in (Shenton, 2004). Therefore, numerous writers have developed ways and methods that can be incorporated into one’s research and increase the validity and trustworthiness of their documents. Some may argue that triangulated research runs the risk of addressing a big amount of unfocused questions at once and makes it difficult for the researcher to sequence and arrange according to their primary and secondary importance (Olsen, 2004). In addition to that, using triangulation might make the research open to the risk of subjectivity, which is the ability of interpreting data by making judgement by using experience, beliefs, and feelings. Also, if systemic bias- which are external influences that might affect the accuracy of the results of an experiment or observation- is present during the conduction of research from the sources, the triangulated data would simply bear the illusion of credibility but will, in fact, not be credible on a scrutinized basis.
