Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church made headlines over the last few months because of his drastic weight loss. Tonight at the presentation of non-violence, the main focus was for the panel to explain from their points of view how religion affects the way individuals think. However, one speaker caught my attention more than others particularly for one reason. The speaker that caught my attention was a Quaker who talked about non-violence in their religion, but also gave their point of view on some “what if” situations. A question brought to our attention was “if someone were to break into your home and threaten you, how do you expect your religion to respond”. The answer the Quaker speaker provided for the audience was a completely different mindset than I had encountered before.…
Thank you so much for your patience. Just to give you both a heads up, Ben will be playing in church on Sunday. You are invited to come at 1pm (probably won't play until about 1:30pm) at the LDS church across from Castle Rock Park. He has a deep love of music and it has really helped him get through when he no longer felt things were worth living. He will be playing O come, O come Emmanuel (the piano guys version).…
This is a story of a local church, the “United Baptist Church,” located in a little village also called Walijo, Kaduna state of Nigeria, West Africa. The building of this church is like some of the Old Testament accounts. Much more like the time of Moses and the children of Israel in the wilderness. When God spoke to Moses to summon the people and he asked that every one of them participated in the construction of the tent in the service of the Lord. Life is not as easy as just speaking words, people may be effortless toward everything and only a few will like to learn new things.…
History “The Lord has blessed us to maintain and Improve our meeting house over the years. For this we are grateful.” Very stern to stray away from using man made words that they say is not biblical. Primitive Baptist have a strong heritage and a very rich one at that.…
The project I choose was to attend a worship service of a different religion. I choose to attend a Catholic Church called Holy Name in San Antonio Texas. My parents have been attending that church since I was little. I never wanted to go to church with them because I thought it was boring and couldn’t keep still. My parents let me stay home since the church was only a block from my house.…
In life we have many choices, and the choices we make affect our everyday life. The decision to attend college is a big one in a person’s life. In today’s economy a high school diploma will not get a person a respected career. Many jobs require a minimum of an Associate’s Degree. So when a person is deciding on a college, many factors are involved: whether you are going to stay local, move away to attend college in another state, or which college offers the best program for your career choice.…

For my pastoral interview, I choose to interview the Senior Pastor of Huntington Central Church (Disciples of Christ) Rev. Jacque Parlato. I started the interview by asking Pastor Jacque to describe her call to ministry. More precisely I asked her to describe her calling from the time she first received it up until now. During this question Pastor Jacque began by telling me about her background and early life. She informed me that she was born and raised in Santiago California, to parents that she described as people who didn’t have everything put together.…
I think with Quakerism in particular, why I like it, is I think, they did a good job at simplifying everything. To their demise, in some regard, with being taken advantage of a lot, because having complete tolerance, complete understanding, putting the focus on both the individual and the community, as a whole, that individuals role in the community. I didn’t know anything about Quakerism when I got here and the spices, but things like integrity and equality, that is universal. Community is universal and it doesn’t matter what group of people you put together, it’s going to be the same. It is going to mean the same things…
Introduction The concept of “church” was started as the tabanacle where the Ark of Covenent was placed (Old Testament). Then it was transferred into the “Temple building” where people experienced God’s presence. When Jesus came to dwell among people, He was the Temple instead of the building. He confirmed it; “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days” (John 2:19 NIV).…
