Clown Classes

The Quad City Clown Troupe will host clown classes in June. The class spans nine days, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of each week. (June 14-16, 21-23, and 28-30). Rather than finish with a stage show, the graduation activity will be a walk-around for the Parks Department Red, White and Boom July celebration.

Registrations are handled through the Parks Department and the troupe will receive a substantial amount of the tuition paid by each student. The reason for walk-around graduation is a combination of the availability of our teaching room and the attempt to provide an activity that is the best available. Stage shows are great but in the past one show takes place and then the students have no mingling/walk-around experience.

With this approach we hope to provide working tools the new clown can use. Walk-around opportunities are

The world will never be the same. The circus is one of the rare events that had an impact on everyone. I should not have to share all the details. But let me summarize by saying a lot of generations will never experience the sounds, amazement or laughter that the circus provided.

When you hear the term circus, most people vision two images. Elephants and the clowns. As clowns we need to keep that image alive. A clown does not understand prejudice. The clown never singles out anyone young or old. A clown just welcomes everyone with a smile and entertains. That is one of the most important postures we need today.

Arguments, personal agendas, bulling and aggressive dislikes do not exist in a clown’s world. We need to focus on positive qualities. Now, more than ever, there are areas that need a clown’s touch. Each opportunity we have to perform is one that will help keep the spirit of family entertainment alive.

There is a little circus in each one of us. The tent goes up and music starts in our mind as

Dillard uses an image of a clown to state ideas that will become notable later in the essay. In her hotel room outside Yakima, Dillard sees a twisted painting of a clown made of vegetables, in which she describes. Dillard states, “I assume, a great many things I wanted to remember—but I have not forgotten that clown painting or its lunatic setting in the old hotel” (97). This scene anticipates the effect the eclipse will have. The clown is made up of vegetables; it is not what it sounds to be.…

Christopher Mele, an American journalist, wrote an article published by the New York Times, “Ringling Brothers: Barnum and Bailey Circus end its 146-Year Run,” on the culmination of the Ringling Brother’s circus performances. Once activists claimed circus employees maltreated the elephants for entertainment, an uproar of tension erupted, upsetting the ticket sales. These emotions spread throughout the United States. As a result, the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an animal rights organization, campaigned for the elephant’s removal and has triumphed recently Moreover, Christopher Mele mentions that the main reason for the outcry is that the circuses have high operating costs and are unable to fund next year. Overall, the closing circuses have…

Since the last time I journaled, I have completed Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants. The novel concluded on page 331. In the second half of the book, the action really picked up and left me never wanting to put the book down. August, the elephant man of the circus, would beat Rosie, because she never listened. It was so hard for Jacob to watch August beat this innocent animal.…

As the house lights are gradually lowered in the Glenelg Country School auditorium, the audience’s effervescent chattering falls to a hush and all that can be heard is one voice somewhere in the theatre, enchanting the audience. The spectators listen intently as the voice travels throughout the theatre, until suddenly, a single spotlight illuminates a middle-aged man sitting on a worn armchair playing the soundtrack of his favorite musical on his antique turntable. So begins Gelnelg Country School’s performance of “The Drowsy Chaperone”. Written by Bob Martin and Don McKeller and music by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, the musical follows the story of an antisocial man as he provides hilarious commentary on his favorite musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone” while listening to its soundtrack on a record player in his quaint apartment. As the music plays, the show comes to life and emphasizes its nonsensical elements to satirize popular musical theatre.…

In the short story “Circus in Town” the author writes “there was a sudden dilation of life within her, of the world around her - an elephant, a brass band in red coats - and to recapture the moment was all she wanted, to scale the glamour and wonder of it, slowly exquisitely, to feel herself unfurl.” demonstrating how the young girl created her own circus using her imagination instead of sulking about the fact that she can’t go to the real one. The story shows how despite not having money to attend the circus, the girl still created her own happiness and didn’t let that bring down her spirit. The author writes “she had her circus - the splendid, matchless circus of a little girl who had never seen one.” and “All night long she wore her purple tights and went riding Billie round the pasture in them.”…

The act of holding wild animals in captivity, specifically for the purpose of entertainment has led many people to associate their abnormal behaviors to psychological suffering. Local zoos and aquariums seem to draw most of the attention from the general public about captive wild animal rights and welfare; however, many forget that traveling circuses are just as much at fault. Coming into one’s hometown once or twice a year, the traditional circus puts on a ‘spectacular show’ using wild animals as part of the main attractions. In essence, they serve as the living props for the actors and actresses that run the show. Among these animals, the most iconic of them all, are the Asian and African elephants.…

However, after being exposed to the fundamentals of theatre over the course of the semester, it is clear that theatre plays a vast role in today’s society. The Night Circus Analysis

Other than the story taking place in the circus, it mainly stays within London, England. The connection the Night Circus has on the characters is pretty strong, especially for Celia and Marco. For the two of them, the circus can be compared to a battle arena where they have to battle each other to the death or a chess board, decorated in nothing but black and white, and they are the pieces being told where to go and what to do by their mentors. To the rest of the characters, the circus is basically their home. Two of the main characters were even born and raised within the circus.…
