October 11, 1884 Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 9, 1884. When Eleanor was 12 her mother died and two years later her father died. Later her she was sent to a school in England to draw her out of her shell. In 1905 when she was 21 she married her distant cousin, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and they had 6 children : Anna, James, Franklin (died as an infant), Elliot, Franklin Jr., and John. She became active in the public service in World War I working with the American Red Cross. After Franklin died on April 12, 1945 she told the reporters that she didn’t plan to continue the public service. She told them; “The story is over.” Eleanor died on November 7, 1962 of aplastic, tuberculosis, and heart failure. She got buried at a family estate
