The solution that was tested was a mixture of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and zeatin and water. The sodium hydroxide was added to the solution to activate the enzyme. If everything else remains constant in the experiment, what are the determining factors? In this experiment, three different concentrations will be tested to determine which seeds can grow in an optimal environment over a course of five days, determining the ideal concentration of zeatin. Each concentration will be the levels of treatment, and the control will exclude the manipulated variables. They include: 0.0427 g zeatin + NaOH water solution, 0.0600 g zeatin + NaOH water solution, 0.0812 g zeatin + NaOH water solution, and the control which is just water solution. These concentrations were decided off the recommended zeatin concentrations that stimulated seed germination and seedling growth (Zeatin PGH, 2016) The control will exclude the zeatin and the NaOH. This will provide the experimenter with a bases of comparison of the elements without the variables given all the conditions are …show more content…
Quantitative measurements such as: the width of both the radicle and hypocotyl, the length of both the radicle and hypocotyl, and how many seeds have sprouted on each day are taken throughout the germination. In each petri dish, there will be a grid of the measuring paper to record both width and length. Qualitative measurements such as the quality (how strong the radicle and hypocotyl looks compared to the control) and color of both will be measured to help support the quantitative results. To begin the experiment, the solutions must be made in order to have the levels of treatment. There will be three levels of treatments, and a control. The solutions are made by adding the respective amounts of zeatin in milligrams (0.0421, 0.0600, 0.0812) to a liter glass, and then dissolve 1 gram of NaOH in 250 mL of water, add that to the zeatin, and bring the volume to 1000ml in the glass with water. The control is just pure water. The control’s filter paper will be soaked in a water solution only, providing the level of treatment with no addition of hormones, just the hormones that are found in nature and how they affect the germination. Although the NaOH was controlled throughout the experiment with each level of treatment, the control will not have any NaOH because it will be toxic without the balance from the cytokinin and
