Pythagoras was born around 570 BC in Samos, Greece. His dad was a traveling merchant, so his mom had to raise his siblings and him by herself most of the time but Pythagoras did travel often with his dad. He developed a new theory in astronomy based on ratios. He thought the universe was a sphere and the stars were on the outer shell. The sun, moon and the other planets revolved around the Earth because it was in the center. He came up with the idea of “Harmony of the Spheres” because the distance between Earth and each of the seven planets had the same ratios as the seven musical notes A through G. The idea was popular among Greeks but scientist later disproved it. When observing a lunar eclipse he saw the curved shadow the Earth gave and discovered that Earth was a sphere. He is also credited towards Earth rotating on an axis.
He died around 500-490 BC in Metapontum, Italy. There are many different stories about his death. One is he died in a fire when his school was burned by an angry mob. The second story is that he escaped the fire in the school but was chased to a bean field, but not wanting to step on the sacred beans he was killed by the mob. The third story is that he escaped the school and moved to a town near Metapontum and died around 490

The Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras (c. 580-c. 500 B.C.) is one of the few figures in ancient times, or indeed in any age, who warrants comparison to the extraordinary Imhotep. Although he is best known for his famous geometrical theorem, his accomplishments ranged far beyond mathematics and involved areas as diverse as music, politics, and religion. Like Imhotep, he was a figure larger than life. Some historians suggest that he never really lived; in fact it appears highly likely that he did live some time during the 500s B.C. (Imhotep was only a bit less ancient to Pythagoras than Pythagoras is to modern people.)…
