In South Australia the Pyrite mine (iron sulfide) initially began in the mid 1950’s and the mining operations stopped and closed at the end of 1972. The production of iron sulfide was to manufacture and create fertilizers such as, superphosphate fertilizer. Superphosphate fertilizer is used in agriculture where is helps to sustain the rapid change of social economic after WWII. After the mine site was closed, the pyrite of overburden waste dumps that were present at the quarry ( the mining pit) were exposed to the air and the atmosphere around it (as seen in fig.1). This resulted for the sulfidic mineral wastes to oxidize, forming acid

This will result the Pyrite mine site in an appropriate conditions and state that can be re-used by the ecosystem or simple by people and casualties who live around the area. These strategies include the following:
Reducing inputs
Water: in mine sites, water is used in a number of applications. These may include by pumping underground water as it can reduce both quantity and quality of water available nearby mine site for aquatic ecosystems or other industrial water uses.
Energy: mining uses up a lot of energy. For example fuel is used by trucks, electricity is used to grind minerals and metals such as copper or aluminum, and coal is used to make steel. Energy used during mining processes are vital for environments conditions as it has impacts and produces greenhouse gasses and environmental contamination (AMD). The reduction of energy used will decrease greenhouse gas emissions and not have a lot of impact on fossil fuels. It will also decrease mining
