Did you know that there are less than a 100 pygmy three-toed sloths in the entire world? Pygmy three-toed sloths have been classified as critically endangered and there are only a very small quantity of these sloths left. The pygmy three-toed sloth is on the verge of extinction because of mainly habitat destruction and poaching. In order to save the pygmy three-toed sloths from extinction, the government should restrict people from being on the island which the sloths live on, Isla Escudo de Veraguas, since the island is also very tiny, to make their population of the sloths thrive once again.
The government should ban people from entering the island where the Pygmy three-toed sloths live because humans are destroying their habitat, which is very small by itself. In the article, “Pygmy Three-toed sloth”, it says that, “The most serious threat to the pygmy three-toed sloths is the destruction of mangroves in which they live in” (Curnick, Cabellos). This refers to that humans are cutting down the red mangroves which the sloths end up living in. It shows that habitat destruction is one of the main cause why the population …show more content…
Scientists say that, the mangroves that the sloths live in are covered of an area from 1.3-1.5 kilometers. These scientists point out that, the sloths live in a very small area and do not have much space. However, other researchers prove that the main threats to the sloths is habitat destruction and poaching. This means that only habitat destruction is poaching is causing the population of the sloths to drop. This matters because is shows that the land size is not affecting the sloths majorly, but humans are affecting them. My action plan is more superior because it actually stops the major threats to the pygmy three-toed sloths and it will make the sloths population thrive
