In the Pygmalion, a Flower Girl talks differently from everyone else. She’s talks this way because of where she is from. The note taker’s profession was recognizing and studying the way people talk, and tracing it back to where they’re from. This Flower Girl has a different way of speaking, so, he studied her. Later on, he tried convincing her to let him teach her how to talk the way these people did. Why? Because he knew she would be looked down upon. As a result, she wouldn’t be able to do much in this area. Or be able to go up on the social scale. She would be forever considered a poor girl.
In the Greek Myth of Pygmalion, there’s a young sculptor whose name is Pygmalion. “He thought nothing on earth was as beautiful as the white marble folk that live without faults and never grow old. Indeed, he said that he would never marry a mortal woman.” Later on, he finished building a statue of an ivory maiden, who was absolutely gorgeous. Even though it was a statue, Pygmalion fell in love with her. He loved her more than anything else in the world. On the festival of Venus, he went to the altar and said a prayer. Act 2 really shows the negative tone in which they talk to one another. The illustration however represents more of the theme, how people shouldn’t be looked down upon, but treated equal. Both themes are in the same boat, they just show two different perspectives on it.
