Pushpa Basnet is a hero. One day Pushpa visited a women's prison for her studies and was completely shocked by the conditions they were living in. While at the prison, a little girl grabbed her shirt and began to smile, she felt this was her calling to do something. Months later she decided to start a daycare program for children living in a bad home. This daycare program is for children under the age of six and a home for older children that provides education, food, and medical care. Before starting this program nobody believed in Pushpa. She wanted to prove to people that she could do this for herself and for the kids. She said, “Once I got started it wasn’t hard at all, the children's smiles keep me going. Our relationships are so strong, they have started calling me mom.” There are currently 40 kids in the older kids home and seven in the daycare. Without this organization a lot of kids could go without an education, so much as live on the streets.
