Personal Statement: Pursuing Dreams

Pursuing the Dream When you find yourself as a person and decide what you wish to pursue in life, you don’t normally look back years past to a young age where a favorite hobby was brought to life. Many jobs can’t be linked to what you choose to partake in as a second grader. Despite the rarity, this is exactly what I found doing when my parents started questioning me of possible career options. Up until recently have I realized what my true dream job would be and although I now accept it, doesn’t mean that it is a practical move for me to earn a living on. If someone who doesn’t know or understand my passion ask, “You have two more years of high school, what would do you wish to study in college?” my answer will always be a teacher. There are also the people that pursue these jobs simply because they give that person joy. If I were to classify myself, I would put myself in the latter group of people. Being able to write relatable songs that could help others through the same things I’m going through and giving people inspiration to follow their dreams would be an irreplaceable feeling. Especially considering that these inspired people would be in the same position I’m currently in, which consists idolizing artists and their music and constantly listening to music and dreaming. Currently, I am sitting in my room singing and jamming to music and resting on the wall in front of me is my favorite quote which has inspired me to attempt writing songs and continues to inspire me today. The quote reads, “Music is my life, words are my story,” which how true artists that produce music for the people, not the paycheck, feel about producing music. Sometimes I can picture myself teaching a class full of students and enjoying my job, yet recently I don’t see how I could be happy with a second option job, when music is what my heart belongs to. Although, this year of my life and the following year are the time I’m supposed to decide on what I wish to study in college, I find that task to be nearly impossible with hoping and wishing for music to be the option I
