Pursuing Nursing As A Career

To me, nursing is far more than a job or even a career. I look at nursing as this adventure, a constant learning procedure of development that I look forward to pursue. I have chose nursing as my career path because I have always felt drawn to the medical field. As a kid, when most want to play out the roles of being a teacher, doctor or a police officer. My favorite pretend job was anything medical related, I was always the nurse, the doctor, or the mom with a sick child. I believe that the instinctive sense of desire to care and help someone has consistently remained with me. When I was growing up, I could never picture myself doing anything else than become a nurse. Most of my aunt's on my father's side were either nurses or caregivers. I would sit down all day and listen to all their stories around the inspiring and touching moments that they faced daily while working, as well as the heartbreaking times they had. At that moment, this sincere human connection is what made me fall in love with the idea of pursuing nursing as my profession. My goal is to be able to use my intelligence to comfort and aid people. I am very interested and excited to prepare myself for a future of helping others by studying up on the skills and characteristics needed to succeed on the job. I know that there are certain skills that I have yet to learn in becoming a nurse, but a valuable characteristic that I believe will help me ensure those skills is my desire to learn. I remember my aunt saying "Earning a nursing degree doesn't mean you're no longer a student," when having conversation around the nursing career. I know that the best nurses are the ones who continue to question, develop and learn throughout their entire careers, which I also hope to do during my time in the practical nursing
