Online Course Development Class

After I decided to pursue my Master’s Degree in Educational Technology, I assumed there would be courses that I had to take simply because I had to take them--meaning that I had to do the work and get it done so I could earn my grade and move on. I also figured there would be courses where I would actually learn something that would be useful in my career. This Online Course Development class has been an example of the latter. The thing that comes slamming into my mind when reflecting on this course experience is the fact that I had actual experience creating an online course for an audience that pertains to my current career. Most of the previous courses in my program of study focused on online learning--what it is, how to be effective at it, how to manage the course, etc. While those classes set a solid foundation for me, this is the course that has brought it all home to me. I actually feel like I could facilitate an online course. Before taking this class, I was learning about teaching an online course, but never really seriously considered it. Now, after taking this class, am ready …show more content…
I thought it would be “easy” to write about something I already knew instead of researching a new LMS. What surprised me is when I was finished putting my thoughts to paper, I had written nearly 1500 words. I knew that nobody would read a post that long. It was actually tough for me to tone down my knowledge and pick the most important aspects of Google Classroom. I’m still sold on it being the best that I’ve seen--and the most practical--at least for me at my current position. Our district is a GAFE (Google Apps For Education) school; Google Classroom is free for me and my students to use. That week I also investigated Edmodo, as I had heard the name several times and had heard positive comments about it. Little did I know at that time I would choose Edmodo to build my

Final Essay: How Topics In This Course Relate to the “Working” World The first day of this course was a memorable one. I remember walking into class and sitting next to someone who I had not seen for a couple of semesters, and we were chatting about what we thought this course was going to be like. After the professor opened the class, he made it clear that this was not an ordinary class, taught in the time-weathered classic method of notes, lecture and paper exam course instruction. Now, the class was structured to teach facts and equations in the book, but went beyond that, using supplements like in-class examples, random questions and the powerpoints constructed by peers.…

I feel like I have learned a lot more than I do in some other classes. This course was not just a memorize the terms, regurgitate said terms on an exam and forget the material. There were many real examples that have sparked a lot of interest for me. Fair Trade items are now something that I am very familiar with and I attempt to find ways to purchase things I need that are fair traded. The climate change and global warming topic sparked my interest when I learned that all the glaciers will be gone by 2015.…

Before taking music 111, I only know little about music with few preconceptions. First preconceived idea which I hold was players who can play by ear are naturally genius or just a special gift. However, from the lecture, “Oral Tradition” and Lilliestam’s article I got the idea how the players can play by ear. In his article, "On Playing By Ear", Lars Lilliestam compared music to spoken language. He described as if we learn a variety of phrases, we can use the language in certain situation.…

    1. - Communication I began this class having no idea of what to do after I graduated. I was really lost in the sense of looking for a job or even interviews because of not knowing what to do in the whole time from finding a job to hand shaking it. So that transition from college to real life would definitely going to hit me hard, and I realized that almost before finishing my studies, so taking this class was necessary. Honestly, I was not planning to take this class but the destiny shoved me out of another class and finally ended up being in Intro to Career Development, which I couldn’t be more grateful.…

Reflection Two – The Course Plan Review For a couple of years I have dreamed of conducting an online course for job seekers. When I was an intern I created a guide and most recently I created a course plan and directions for one session out of this imaginary course. My work as a novice as my instructor has pointed out is a “good start (McKenzie-White, 2015, assignment feedback)” Going forward with this review it is important to imagine that I am taking steps to implement this online course for job seekers of the 21st century as a novice instructional designer. The first managerial decision is the choice of platform. I have a CourseSite account.…

Honestly, as our 7 weeks are coming to an end I am quite disappointed in myself with where my grade is. I had high hopes and determination to receive a B or an A as my final grade but it looks like I might leave this course with a C. This online course in my opinion is not difficult nor is it easy but what I would suggest for the next student and for myself is to utilize your email and text messaging the Instructor to the fullest! Also, do not feel uncomfortable asking questions you think, “are stupid” or feel like you’re asking too many questions. Our first assignment which was writing an evaluation paper, I had received a 50 out of 100 points and I can just recall how shocked and confused as to why, and the great thing about our Instructor…
