I am honored and excited to be considered for the National Junior Honor Society. I would love to be a part of this organization because it would provide opportunities for me in the future. Also it can give me a sense of community. I can promote all of the NJHS tenets but I am only going to write about service, character and scholarship. I feel I already work hard at exhibiting these principles in my everyday life.…
In reading Harry & Mary Meinhardt’s legacy, I was reminded of my own career in the military. I also enlisted in the United States Army right out of high school, at the tender ager of 17. And much like Harry, I proudly served for twenty-six years. I rose the rank of Sergeant First Class before transitioning to a Warrant Officer. Having an education has always been of value to me and so has the idea of helping others.…
I am Daphne Williams, I'm originally from a small town near Pensacola, FL where growing up my parents pushed to work hard and do right by my elders. I never thought going to school to further my studies would be an option being that it wasn’t enforced in my household growing up. A few years after graduation of high school I joined the service after realizing that minimum wage wasn't exactly what I wanted to continue with. At the time of joining the service I realized I wanted to be capable of doing so much more but had little or no direction as to what I wanted to do exactly. After completion of my first two years in the service I hated it until I crossed paths with a great leader while deployed in Afghanistan.…
My drive to serve others is a unique quality. Ever since kindergarten, I participated in numerous community service activities. Whether it was through dancing, a Girl Scout toy drive or volunteering at a hospital, I have always found happiness in bringing joy to other people. Some say dance like nobody is watching, but I say the exact opposite.…

Over the course of my four years of high school, I have participated in clubs and sports where I have learned new things and made memories with friends. I was involved in Key Club, where we donate and volunteer to help the elderly, or people in need. During my time in this club, we donated numerous amount of times to soup kitchens and to people who needed clothes and jackets for the cold weather. I was also involved in National Honor Society. In NHS, we also did volunteer work such as tutoring kids in multiple subjects.…
I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…
For the first two years of my highschool career I had done very little with the school. I occasionally volunteered for the spirit week events, such as building a homecoming float. However, at the end of my sophomore year I realized that I could be involved with much more. With this in mind, I decided to run for class president and somehow I had won the election. As a result of this, I began to get more involved with the school.…
Ever since I came to Xaverian in 2013, I have looked forward to being able participate in Christian Senior Service. The fact that Xaverian gives students the opportunity to give back to their community last quarter of their Senior year (and high school career) is extremely invaluable. I have always enjoyed doing service. It is something that I know helps the people I am serving, but also makes me feel good inside. Helping those around me is a desire that comes natural to me.…
My high school career at Edgewood would all change the moment of my freshman year would I found out devastating news that changed me to become the disciplined student I am today . The next morning, I saw the newspaper while I was eating breakfast. On the front page, there was a story about a young boy who saved a woman’s life. She was going to walk into her house and end herself, but he smiled and waved at her from across the street. He ran over to her and asked her how her day was, in a completely mundane conversation, which led to her talking to him for hours. His mere existence on that day and in that place changed her whole perspective, resulting in her deciding to spare her life for the hope that she could help others like her.…
Student Response Scholarship is important in my everyday life because it will affect my future greatly. Scholarship is putting effort into achieving a higher range of knowledge. During school, I try my best to obtain as much information that I possibly can to expand my knowledge. I make sure to ask questions when needed and to always get my assignments done before they are due.…
Every American knows of the civil rights leader Marther Luther King Jr., but not many people know about the man who inspired MLK to employ the passive resistance technique as a way of protest. That man is Mahatma Gandhi, he is also known for having this idea that "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. " Some people believe that there is no correlation between finding yourself and committing yourself to helping others, but that way of thinking is simply ignorant. The truth is that by losing oneself in the service of others, that person is able to obtain new experiences that will help determine who they want to be in life. Imagine MLK, a black child living in the South, at the age of 14 years.…
