My high school career expanded my opportunities to pursue these traits. Through Beta club, Student Council, and National Honor Society I started having the opportunity to make a difference in peoples’ lives in my community and

In reading Harry & Mary Meinhardt’s legacy, I was reminded of my own career in the military. I also enlisted in the United States Army right out of high school, at the tender ager of 17. And much like Harry, I proudly served for twenty-six years. I rose the rank of Sergeant First Class before transitioning to a Warrant Officer. Having an education has always been of value to me and so has the idea of helping others.…

I am Daphne Williams, I'm originally from a small town near Pensacola, FL where growing up my parents pushed to work hard and do right by my elders. I never thought going to school to further my studies would be an option being that it wasn’t enforced in my household growing up. A few years after graduation of high school I joined the service after realizing that minimum wage wasn't exactly what I wanted to continue with. At the time of joining the service I realized I wanted to be capable of doing so much more but had little or no direction as to what I wanted to do exactly. After completion of my first two years in the service I hated it until I crossed paths with a great leader while deployed in Afghanistan.…

I am truly honored as being a nominee for the Easton Chapter National Honor Society. The standards that must be proven to be nominated by this prestigious society are an example of the hard work and dedication I have exemplified in school. Throughout my years of schooling, I have tried my hardest to get good grades, while also demonstrating the characteristics that make up the National Honor Society; they are leadership, service, and character. While I have exhibited all three throughout my educational career, I feel that my service characteristic stands out above the rest. Service can mean many things, but to me, it means helping someone perform a task they can’t complete themselves, sacrificing your time, and assisting the less fortunate.…

The next morning, I saw the newspaper while I was eating breakfast. On the front page, there was a story about a young boy who saved a woman’s life. She was going to walk into her house and end herself, but he smiled and waved at her from across the street. He ran over to her and asked her how her day was, in a completely mundane conversation, which led to her talking to him for hours. His mere existence on that day and in that place changed her whole perspective, resulting in her deciding to spare her life for the hope that she could help others like her.…

Every American knows of the civil rights leader Marther Luther King Jr., but not many people know about the man who inspired MLK to employ the passive resistance technique as a way of protest. That man is Mahatma Gandhi, he is also known for having this idea that "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. The truth is that by losing oneself in the service of others, that person is able to obtain new experiences that will help determine who they want to be in life.
