Essay on Pursuing My Doctor Of Pharmacy Degree

785 Words 4 Pages
It has taken me many years to get to this point in my life, but I can finally say I am ready to pursue my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. To better understand what has brought me to this point; I 'll start from the beginning. I began my job pursuit at the age of 17. Not knowing what to anticipate, I tried my chance in procuring a job at my local Walgreens. Unbeknownst to me, my journey to pharmacy school had already begun.

As a beauty advisor, I worked diligently and pleased my store manager with the amount of work ethic and enthusiasm I had which, in turn, opened the doors to many new opportunities. The greatest opportunity I had was to train to be a pharmacy technician. At the time, though; I had no idea what pharmacy even was and what it entailed, but I was excited to find out.

I began training in the pharmacy shortly after my 18th birthday and my high school graduation. It was quite challenging understanding pharmacy policies and procedures, learning SIG coding and attempting to decipher doctors ' handwriting. At times I felt uncomfortable asking the pharmacy manager for assistance on how to perform certain procedures, especially when it came to billing insurance companies. While it was tough, after about a year, I finally understood basic pharmacy and I loved my new job. I then relocated to another Walgreens, which was much busier than my old pharmacy and it was there that I refined my pharmacy practice.

My new pharmacy manager was so pleased with how well I did my job…
