I have been a paralegal for nearly five (5) years and my experience as a paralegal has only reaffirmed me that I want my contribution to humanity to be through law. I have experience working in several areas of law such as: litigation, real estate, family, criminal, and immigration. However, the most fulfilling work experience thus far has been whilst servicing clients as an interpreter and paralegal at an immigration law firm. Working as an Immigration Paralegal has only reassured me of my decision to pursue law as a career.

My first major assignment as an Immigration Paralegal at Fragomen began with a one-on-one case management session with the attorney and Maria, who was the client. Maria was a woman from Mexico with very limited English competence. Maria was in the process of applying for her immigration petition under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). The attorney assigned to the case only spoke English and Maria could only communicate in Spanish. It is time to build on my life experience and education so that I can continue to help others. My experience and education has allowed me to possess the intellectual ability, maturity, and above all, passion to be able to successfully achieve a Juris Doctorate degree and a career in the legal field. I have already taken the knowledge and skills I acquired in the three semesters that I completed at Touro and utilized it to make a significant difference in a person’s life, such as Maria’s. I can only imagine how much more of a difference and significance I can make to society by obtaining a law degree.
