The value of a college degree is a dispute that is commonly contemplated, yet rarely answered. I will attempt to express my attitude towards college education, personally defined as an Associate’s Degree for returning adult students. In an effort to explain the greater benefits of a college degree despite the common rhetoric that it is not financially worthwhile, I have considered the positive and negative effects of doing so. I have examined the following articles, “Learning by Degrees and Live Chat With the Author,” “The Major and the Job Market, the dream and the reality,” and “In the Basement of the Ivory Tower,” to support my stance. When one maintains a desire to progress academically and an open-mindedness to educational demands in the…

Having listened to the Podcast presented titled “Navigating the Transition from School to the Workplace,” I have taken in a certain accountability as a student. The first lesson received from listening to the Podcast, is what Jeffery Selingo referred to as an expectancy to obtain a job once the college graduate has received a college degree. As Selingo described, most students, as well as parents, believe there is an obligatory job offering once they have received an associate’s or bachelor’s degree. This is definitely not the case when it comes to employers, who on average post ninety-four percent of jobs requiring a degree as well as a certain amount of experience. From learning this, I will seek for more experience-assisting positions such as internships, or apprenticeships.…

On Friday May 5th, 2017, we had the opportunity to have Professor Patricia Whitney, MA visit our class and talk about hospice. In my paper, I will include three distinct pieces of information and explained them. The first one was that if I want to pursue a career as a asocial worker in hospice, I need to have a Master’s Degree in social work. This does make sense because if I get a Master’s degree, that would mean that I would get the opportunity to get more information/education on dealing with people that are dying soon.…

Those workers with master’s degrees deserve the raises that come with those positions but those who have devoted their lives to the community they are in also deserve those higher raises and pay scales because sometime experience can be better than just education. Those who have achieved their bachelor 's degrees may not be hired on with a salary that is enough to pay back the student loans they have acquired. These workers are there to help their community and the people they serve, but may not even be able to serve themselves. Those with master 's degrees may be in even more of a financial hardship because a high educational achievement like that traditionally costs more money than just a bachelor 's. Also, these degrees are more often very field specific, spending tens of thousands of dollars on a degree for a passion is a lifelong commitment and in order to use their degree they must be in social work, so it can sometimes seem like a difficult decision if they are considering leaving social work if the pay is not good enough; waste a degree or live a low standard of living that could be improved by changing…
