I decided to read Pursuing the Good Life: 100 Reflections on Positive Psychology by Christopher Peterson. As this book has 100 reflections I decided to only pick one sections of this book to discuss. Throughout this report I will discuss Positive Emotions and Experiences and thirteen different areas of positive emotions and positive experiences. Part of a good life is experiencing things that make you feel good and happy, such as, pleasure, satisfaction, engagement with friends or family. Throughout this book I have focused on things that I do everyday and did not realize what I was doing. Well to start things off savoring is a strategy that people use to enhance and sustain their “feel good” feelings and savoring contributes to a healthy well-being. People who savor (the not so wealthy) are more likely to share positive experiences such as birthdays, anniversaries, Mothers day, Fathers day, and so on. People who savor more will take pictures and celebrate and enjoy the moment with the ones they love. While on the other hand, people who do not savor (the wealthy) will just continue this occasions as normal, “Happy Birthday Sweetie, have a nice day, here is your present,” and continue the day. The two article titles, “Happiness is Other People” by Ruth Whippman (2017) published on The New York Times and “The Secret to Deeper Happiness Is Simpler Than You Might Think” by Ginny Graves (2017) published on Health.com discuss on how happiness is misapprehended and defines how one is able to achieve happiness. The main point that Whippman’s article (2017) wanted to bring across to the readers is that happiness lies does not lie within rather it is more on engaging in human interactions, whereas in Graves’ article (2017), it states that lasting happiness does not come from materialistic possessions but can be from the simplest means or actions in accordance to your own values. The two articles have brought their points across to the reader, however I feel that Ginny Graves’ articles are more persuasive as compared to Ruth Whippman’s articles in terms of credibility, being more relatable more readers she is able to reach and having more testimonials in supporting her argument . Ginny Graves and Ruth Whippman were both considered are veteran authors with writing experiences of 30 years (Graves, n.d.) and 7 years (Whippman, n.d.) respectively, however when it comes to the topic of “happiness” both authors lack the credibility when trying to persuade the readers since this topic requires a great understanding…
