Pursuing A Career In Social Work

INTRODUCTION
The career I decided to research is social work. I wasn’t sure that is what I wanted to research because really I thought I wasn’t going to go to college and I was going to go down a completely different career path. I chose this because I have really been thinking of school and what I want to go for. There are many different subsections of social work and many different things you can do along with the job itself. With this career you can work in nursing homes, hospitals, and human resource buildings. I became interested in it when my \friend started going to school for it and actually started working at a crisis center in Lima, OH. She works daily with women who have dealt with bad cases of domestic violence. That specific job

Like working in a shelter, you start out working 12 hour night shifts, watching the house. There are sometimes you face big cases, but rarely. You work your way to work during the day and actually deal one on one with the patients. Eventually you can be promoted to be head advisor at the clinic and run everything and be the one to make life plans with the women at the home. It’s not going to be easy to be where you want to be at first, but in the end it will be worth it because you’ll love your job.
For when it comes to what kind of schooling you need to be in that type of position, most of the time you need to get your Bachelor’s degree. There are some jobs where you can be in school still but you get the lower end of the stick at that point.
EMPLOYER PROFILE
Finding a job to try to achieve is the hardest part after schooling. A job I would be interested is one close to my home. The Lima Crisis Center offers various opportunities to do what you want to do. They have a women’s shelter whose location is confidential that helps women one on one to recover from abuse. They have been open for the last 30-40 years.

With this job you start out at the bottom and you have to work your way to the top. At first you start out just being a resident advocate, meaning you're there for the night shift and you basically are to watch the house and if the women need anything you assist them.
INTERVIEW
I had just recently got the opportunity to interview someone in the field of which I have been researching. She also happens to be one of my very good friends who actually encouraged me to make my decision. She told me all about her job duties when shes on the clock and also told me about how personal it can get to you. Her salary right now is at about $15 an hour, and thats her just starting. She gets the opportunities to talk and inspire women in the home she works at to move on with their lives and better themselves.
Most of the time she is on night shift so she cleans an disinfects the house and does paperwork on the improvement or downfall of the women staying in the shelter. She gets
