Pursuing A Career In Research

When I arrived at Xavier University, my career path was simple; I would spend 4 years for undergrad to obtain my bachelors degree, attend medical school, and become a physician. During my current three year journey through Xavier, I have had many life and academic experiences that have changed this simple path to a much more eventful course. I believe that obstacles and failures are sometimes placed in your life to learn from and guide you to what your true purpose in life. I realized that laboratory work is a strong interest of mine. Currently, I intended on going to graduate school to pursue a master’s, doctorate, and possibly a medical degree. I am responsible, organized, and focused. I am hard working and easy to get along with. I am familiar with clinical settings. I am a volunteer in the NICU at Oschner, where I restock supplies in the patients’ rooms, shadow nurses and doctors, and comfort newborns to boost health. …show more content…
My goal in attending the program is to gain an experience in research, a mentor or mentors who will inspire and motivate me, and resources that I can use during my journey to my career. Although my experience may not seem much, I strongly believe I have the traits applicable to assisting in this research project. My desire and willingness to learn and resolve to keep going are traits that are needed in the research field. While gaining more experience is a hope of mine, it is not my main reason for wanting to do research.
