I grew up in a very conservative, Reformed, Christian home. I was sheltered from a lot of things, however, I wouldn’t change the way I was raised for anything. I am proud of who I have become. I was forced to go to church every week for reasons I did not understand. I found the church to be a place where I would just sit, color, and attend Sunday school. As I grew older, I found the adults of my home church to be very accepting and encouraging me in all of my school activities that I participated in. I was always being asked how school, dance, or cheerleading were going. I would give them one’s typical response by saying “good!” However, this was never where the conversation ended. They would then proceed to ask me, “when is your next game?” or “when is your next recital?” and then they would conclude with “I’m hoping to make it to that game” or “I’m hoping to make it to your
