Allstate 's Purple Purse program sought to increase awareness of domestic violence, specifically financial abuse. According to National Network to End Domestic Violence, financial abuse is experienced by 98% of domestic violence victims and is a way for the abuser to control the victim. Financial abuse includes:forbidding the victim to work, not allowing the victim access to bank accounts, controlling how all of the money is spent, and sabotaging work or employment opportunities. According to Safe Horizon, a domestic violence shelter in New York, one woman out of every four will experience domestic violence in her life, and the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development has found that domestic violence is the third leading cause …show more content…
Since they identified Hispanic people as a demographic most likely to recognize the serious nature of financial abuse, they created a message on multiple platforms specifically for that demographic.
The campaign was an overall success. As a result of the “Purple Purse Challenge,” nonprofits were able to raise 2.5 million dollars for programs and services to financially empower domestic violence victims. They garnered over 23,000 media placements that included Good Morning America, MSNBC, and CNN. They also established a continuing conversation regarding domestic violence and financial abuse across social media platforms using the hashtag #PurplePurse.
I would recommend they used more Celebrities to endorse their foundation. A wider range of celebrities could increase the markets they would potentially reach. with Kerry Washington being an actress they could branch out into other fields, such as the music industry and professional sports players. This would allow them more options for their controlled media and more demographics to spread their message to. I would also recommend having a Hispanic celebrity endorsement. With Hispanics being the largest demographic to recognize financial abuse having a celebrity endorsement that reflect that would be very beneficial when reaching out to that demographic. The tactics already in place to reach Hispanic people would be more effective with an endorsement from a celebrity well known in that market. Another way they could improve their campaign would be to host a wider variety of events. while Fashion week is a very well known event, it is not very accessible to many people. With a Wider array of events they would expand their target

SALP: Domestic Abuse Program Evaluation Christopher M. Nima San Jose State University Social workers have long confronted the multiple issues that coexist within a household filled with domestic violence. The problems that can fester in a household filled with domestic violence range from child endangerment to alcohol abuse. Unfortunately, services for the victims of these types of family violence have been splintered, forcing single women or families to go to multiple agencies for support. This issue can become ever more complicated when the victims come from immigrant households who are less familiar with American culture, laws, and services available to them. The focus of the program evaluation is to propose human…

Abuse comes in many forms, but one of the most concerning and violent of abuses is domestic and intimate partner violence (DV/IPV). Jennifer R. Farmer’s Huffington Post article “Crystal Hamilton, Black Women and Domestic Violence,” is an article written to give a voice to an issue that many choose to keep quiet. Domestic violence affects up to 1.3 million individuals a year nationally (Farmer) but is one of the most scarcely reported; for women of color, low economic standing and sex trade work, the rate of abuse reporting is even lower than that of the majority. Domestic violence against women is rooted in both the micro as well as macro level with the levels being distinguishable from one another due to their differing perspectives Crystal Sheree Hamilton was a 29-year old mother, wife, daughter and victim of domestic abuse. On February 27, 2016 in Prince William County, Northern Virginia, Crystal was shot…

Rhetorical Analysis Project: The Future Generation is Over Controlled Civil liberties, or personal freedoms are personal freedoms of thought, behavior, or expression that any authorities cannot abridge by law or by judicial interpret ion without due process. As one of the universal applications, personal freedom-a human right-should not be interpreted culturally or contextually(Franck, 593). For example, China’s Fundamental Rights and Duties of Citizens claims to protect many civil liberties. The U.S. constitution, especially the Fourteenth Amendment, protects civil rights by introducing a series of clauses. Hence, ideally, citizens should enjoy freedom from forced disappearance, freedom from torture, and also the right to security, privacy…

The Burma ads create anticipation by piquing the curiosity of drivers and passengers traveling on the highway. My mom still remembers the road signs, and she was just a young girl when she saw the signs while riding in a car down Highway 75. Obviously, they made a lasting impression. I would have to say that the Burma Shave ads were more groundbreaking for their time. They managed to maximize their exposure, while keeping their campaign simple and cost effective.…

The discourse community I chose to study are the CNA’s (certified nurse assistant) at Marquis Shaw Mountain Nursing Home. What I have noticed in talking to my sister, Blais, (a CNA at Marquis) and CNA’s at other facilities is each nursing home has their own atmosphere and way of doing things, just like any discourse community. At Marquis the CNA’s are expected to take care of the residents and provide whatever service the resident needs to live as comfortable as possible. This includes dressing them, showering them, feeding them, and even doing the residents nails. Originally my sister had started off as a CNA at another nursing home and two years later decided to apply elsewhere.…

It was a routine day except for the fact that my science teacher talked about the science club named “phyX” and like the breeze that comes out of nowhere, a random desire to join the club came to me. My idea of the PhyX was a room full of geniuses doing some weird experiments with colorful chemicals, building some weird device but as I got into the room it was a place where ideas were discussed and information’s were shared. It had its own technical term, own way of functioning, communicating and problem solving.…

Consequently, Domestic Violence Shelter currently heavily depends on private donations and fundraising programs, which are insufficient to meet the increased demand of victims. For the first time ever, Domestic Violence Shelter has been forced to reduce the number of our shelter beds along with staff. The implication of this is that we presently only able to render services to about half the number of domestic violence victims as we did before. The lack of shelter beds means that an escapee of domestic violence would be forced to seek refuge at a homeless shelter, a potentially unsecure facility run by people untrained to handle victims of domestic violence. The executive director of the Rhode Island Coalition against Domestic Violence said “This is the first time in the history of domestic violence services in Rhode Island we’ve ever had to scale back in this dramatic…
