In the Novel Purple Hibiscus we see that Kambili is outcasted from her true self in her own home. Papa enforces respect and manners on Kambili by contributing in church activity, thus giving her a sense of dignity when around Papa.
Due to the strictness of papas rules and morals, Kambili is forced to be quiet and only speak up when spoken to causing many challenges when needed to think for herself, do what she believes is right without having to consider papas word first hand. Papa is constantly enforcing ‘’the word of god’’ upon his family and children stating that he doesn’t raise “loud children with no freedom of god’’, influencing Kambilis obedience and actions.
