This awareness day has expanded over the years, and during 201* it reached the attention of a small group of students at John Fraser Secondary School. This group known as Positive Space has the mission to provide a safe environment for all students regardless of their sexuality, background, age, or religion. Therefore, after learning about Purple Day they decided to implement it in their school and support this cause. However, I noticed that Purple Day was not as popular at school as I thought, and most of the students were relating Purple Day with other awareness days such as Pink Day or Orange Shirt Day because all those days shared the same activity: using a specific colour t-shirt. Therefore, as a club, we decided to recover the importance of Purple Day and created new activities that help students understand the importance of this day.
Consequently, the main activity of the purple t-shirt was eliminated, and I gave the idea of substituting the t-shirts for purple accessories like glasses, shoes, bracelets, cell phone covers, makeup, necklaces, etc. The idea came from the fact that teenagers are more attracted to the idea of combining accessories than just using a purple t-shirt. Also, now students were free to play with the accessory theme to create fun and original combinations that reflect their personality and their support to Purple
