John is a farmer that is married to Elizabeth but had an affair with Abigail. Abigail loves him. We know that she loves him when she says, “I look for John Proctor that took me from my sleep and put knowledge in my heart” (Miller 25). She also says that she loves his strength “I’d almost forgot how strong you are, John Proctor” (Miller 22). Abigail tries everything to get proctor, she even tries to kill Elizabeth. Elizabeth even says, “she wants me dead” (Miller 64).
All John wants though is for Abigail and everyone else to forget the affair. He also wants Elizabeth and not Abigail he says this “I mean to please you, Elizabeth” (Miller 53). Abigail tries to get herself out of trouble. She has a team that will always back her up, because they will do anything she tells them. Like when Abigail tells Marry “I say shut it Marry Warren” (Miller 21). She always has a backup plan and tells them what to do. She tells them “if they be questioning us, tell them we danced” (Miller 18). She also says, “Now look we danced” (Miller 20). Nobody knows about Abigail’s back up except for the Proctors because John says, “Abigail leads the girls to the woods” (Miller 110). Abigail starts to blame everyone that she does not like and wants them dead like when she said, “I saw goody Hawkins with the devil” (Miller 51). Goody Hawkins is not the only one Abigail blames she blames many
