Born in Salem, Massachusetts in 1804. Hawthorne grow up in a family of Puritans that worship the omnipotent God. As an only son Nathaniel had to move to his Uncles house do to the loss of his father. During the trip he finds a particular men with a staff that resembles a snake. Consistently Brown expresses that he needs to turn back but the man would answer that he should not worry that his father and grandfather had walk this path before and even other important people from the village. Then they encounter women who taught brown catechism, lady that goes on to reveal herself as a witch. Brown begins a phase of denial and proceeds to rest and he refuses to go any further, the men leaves him with his former catechism teacher. Then he believes to have heard the minister voice which is then followed by a shout of fear from his wife faith. Proceeding this he calls her but not response then he begins to look for her. He encounters what appears to be an altar with four burning trees and people from the town including her wife. Hawthorne's mention of browns father and grandfather walking that evil path before gives references of his Puritans decency. The ending of the story on how everyone was a devil worshipper refers to how anybody could be induced by this evil blinding nature that humans
