Purge Movie Analysis

From a Criminologist perspective, the purpose of the purge is to make the crime rate decrease and to make the world a better place. It also decreases the homeless rate. It decreases the homeless rate because, in the 12 hours that the purge is in active, the people who get killed are the ones who have no protection. Also, the homeless people are considered filthy, worthless, and not worth saving. They are also the major target because they are the easiest to find, torcher, and kill. In the movie the purge had achieved this goal because the homeless rate and crime rate are at a all time low, and the job hire rate was at an all time high. By allowing people to commit any crime that they want without any consequences, the urge to commit crimes throughout the year is not as great. Just like in the movie, whole families end up dying and ripped apart due to jealousy and pure hatred. Racism also plays a role and nothing can be done because all crimes are legal including hate crimes. Also, a lot of businesses might go out of business because people can steal merchandise causing the business to close. Once the business closes, the people working there suffers as well. From a Psychological perspective, the effects that the purge had on the aggressor could be both positive and negative and positive. A positive effect would be not having the urge to fulfill those dark and evil thoughts during the year. A negative effect would be the fact that a lot of people can not mentally nor emotionally handle the thought of killing someone.
