In any case we would’ve, but the cost to take her to a Vet, and for them to perform surgery on her to give birth is around $800 without the other small details that were around $50 each if I remember correctly. Even so, we miss them so dearly and they know that. After the whole birth process, Bella slept safe and soundly because she had all four of her babies surrounding her. I smiled at them, thanking them in my head for letting me experience this moment with

For some dogs, the passage from rescue to recovery is smooth, an obvious and welcomed transition from the horrors of abuse or neglect. But for Belle, a young Shepherd mix, the process was a struggle that took months. Belle’s journey began in an overcrowded shelter in Lawrence County, Alabama, where she and 300 other animals living in deplorable conditions were rescued by the ASPCA and the Moulton Police Department last summer. Following a month-long stay in a temporary shelter, Belle and more than 200 other animals found homes during a two-day, community wide adoption event.…

Walking through a rancid room filled with dusty shelves completely cluttered with cans and bags of animal food disgusted me. As I continued to walk through this animal shelter that was only thirty minutes from my home, I realized the animals in this place were not taken care of properly. They were unhappy and clustered together. This completely opened up my eyes and made me think about what had happened to my animals before I took them home. When my aunt brought home her first dog, Rayner, when I was six years old, I immediately felt a dog of our own was a necessity; however, my little brother Riley had just been born and my family felt that, to my great anguish, a dog was too much to take on. So, I continued my wait, forever searching for the perfect dog for our family. The arrival of my aunt’s second dog, Macey, gave my nine-year-old self an increased feeling of desire for a dog to call my own. But to my great dismay, my mom and dad still saw the timing as imperfect. For the next four years, I continued to write a dog on the top of my Christmas list, and continually pined my parents for my own “Rayner and Macey”.…
