Literally every problem in our country can be fixed if all of our attention were focused on these very things. Things like this need to be fixed at every level. More jobs, and more opportunities need to be presented. That alone can eliminate a lot of crime like robberies and such. And for god’s sake, people shouldn’t go to prison for the rest of their lives for having such small quantities of drugs on them. If there were more programs to give children a place to go after school, and some kind of positive outlet needs to be introduced like music, art, sports. By implementing that, that would eventually break the cycle of gangs and gang violence. Opportunities of involvement can be something as simple as volunteering at Boys and Girls clubs. But the real involvement would be hiring more people of color in positions of power. Positions of power can be law enforcement, teachers, politicians, high school counselors. Jobs like these, have the most contribution and influence over ‘at risk’ communities. If more people of color became teachers, they can inspire other children to go to school. If more politicians were people of color they can push through laws to benefit low income areas. If someone from a low income community, who grew up seeing police officers abuse their power, became one, he’s not going to want to be like them. If that were to happen, police brutality would not be a huge issue anymore. All of the biggest problems we face as a country could be fixed if we focus on them as a whole. More attention needs to be placed on what’s going on in the ‘hood’. If we were to implement more people of color into powerful roles, our problems would eventually be
