Punishment Can Be Effective In Changing Behavior

Decent Essays
This was back when I was in first grade, but I had accidentally peed in my pants and my mom found out because the school had called her. Luckily, at the school, they had a clean pair of pants for me to wear. I was so scared to go home that day, but when I got home my mom whooped me as my punishment and said that I couldn't go outside for a couple days. Of course, I was very mad because I didn't get to see or play with my friends. I hated being inside so much, but I got to watch cartoons all day.

2.) I think my mom felt horrible for whooping me, but then realized that that may be the only way I learn not to pee in my pants again. She had done all her part and that was potty training me when I was younger. She knew whooping me was the right thing and I bet she was glad she got it over with. Up to this day, I haven't been whooped since then; I learned my lesson.

WRI 1200 Research Plan My research question is whether corporal punishment early in life leads to incarceration later in life. The reason I picked this topic is the desire to learn the truth about it. Growing up in the South, the phrase “Spare the rod, spoil the child” was a very common term. We knew if we behaved badly we were going to get a whooping.…

I slouched at the table in the boring, gray counselor's room, headphones squeezing my ears, as I did my first hearing and vision screening. The counselor played a series of beeps, and I gave a thumbs up for every time I heard something. Before I knew it, the test was over, and I walked out without giving any further thought to the screening. I had no reason to, as my mom had explained to me earlier that this was simply a mandatory, routine check-up, nothing to worry about. Soon, I was back in my beloved kindergarten class, learning how to spell, read, and write.…

Punishment verses Rewards The use of positive reinforcement has a much better outcome than if punishment were to be used, This was the idea of B.F. Skinner, a well-known psychologist from the 1970’s who enlightened the world with his behavioral techniques. Skinner believed that the use of positive reinforcement helped to shape a beings behavior verses punishment. He proved his theory when he trained his rats to push a lever by frequent and scheduled rewards and birds to peck plates using his positive reinforcement ideas. He wanted to take his knowledge of positive reinforcement and apply it to mankind and to improve mankind’s behavior and learning technique.…

For this assignment the class was assigned to interview two people on their personal views on spanking for behavior shaping. One person had to be in the psychology field, the other person could be whoever else. The psychological expert I interviewed was Nicole Olivas, the non-psychological expert that I choose to interview was my fiancé, Casey, mostly because I was very curious about his views on the matter, and if they aligned with my personal views. Nicole mostly talked about the results of the research that had been done on the matter of spanking children. She talked about the difference between abuse and spanking a child, the difference is that it is abuse if it leaves even the slightest mark.…

Another reason as to why spanking can make a child misbehave more is because the child might not always understand their parents intentions. As a child, it can be difficult deciphering the reason as to why their parent spanked them. Unless, the parent explains what the child did wrong they could begin to believe that they were spanked just because their parents were angry, not due to the fact that they were misbehaving. This also can lead to another negative effect, besides increased misbehavior, spanking can diminish the relationship between a parent and their child. The parent-child relationship can be ruined if the parent uses corporal punishment in a moment of rage.…

Once balance is restored, the chances of the prisoner re-offending are diminished (Inayatullah, 2011). In contrast, there is the punishment model. Inayatullah (2011) states that the argument is that all the rights are given to the offender and the victim has none. Therefore in this approach, the best way to reduce present day and future crimes is to keep serious offenders in jail. Evidence shows that twenty-five percent of criminal activity can be reduced by lengthy prison sentences.…

It is obvious that the main issue is whether to heal a prisoner simply for the purpose of execution or otherwise. The basic undertone to this argument could be whether the government authority has the power to force prisoners or citizens to take drugs without their consent regardless of their status. Another point of argument could be making a prisoner sane before execution is rational or a good reasoning before killing. In this scenario, Charles Laverne Singleton is a prisoner on death row, and he is awaiting execution for the crime of felony capital murder. Singleton became insane while in prison, it can be inferred that his insanity is related to the approaching date of execution.…
