Punctuation In Flowers For Algernon

Would you put your life at stake to have a surgery to possibly become a genius? In the science fiction story “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes, Charlie Gordon didn’t fully understand what could happen to him if he had the A.I. surgery to hopefully triple his low I.Q. of 68. Charlie wanted to learn,read,and write. He wanted to fit in and be like everyone else. After the operation, Charlie began to learn things in a couple months that took people a lifetime to learn. Charlie Gordon’s life improved so much after the A.I. procedure to the point where he became a genius. Charlie was able to pass tests,develope good spelling, and be able to use punctuation properly. After Charlie Gordon had the surgery, he developed many benefits. Some of the benefits he got to experience were that he was able to pass tests, compromise, and summarize. He finally was able to pass tests. One of the tests that he could pass was trying to beat Algernon in a maze. “April 6 I beat Algernon! But after that I beat him eight more times” (Keyes 229). Charlie couldn’t spell simple words, they felt like the hardest words on earth. Than one day that all changed. Charlie started progressing each and everyday. The doctors needed to keep track of his progress, so they asked Charlie to keep a progress report.
