Another assessment the nurse monitors for is the formation of thrombosis or clots. “Because patients undergoing prostatectomy have a high incidence of DVT and pulmonary embolism, the provider may prescribe prophylactic low-dose heparin therapy” (Pellico, 2013, p. 963). Heparin helps to decrease the formation of clots, which can have a dangerous outcome if not caught early. While a patient is on heparin therapy, the nurse should cautiously monitor the client for bleeding (Pellico, 2013). Water Imagery and Symbolism in Love Medicine Louise Erdrich’s novel Love Medicine conveys the state of Native American life in today’s society. Her symbolism stands out to me above all else in the book. While Erdrich uses many symbols and motifs, the most poignant is her water and river imagery and the symbolism behind it. She uses water to symbolize many concepts in the novel, most prominently time and religion. The passage of time being likened to the movement of a river is not an unprecedented idea due to the endless flow of a river being easily equated with time.…

William Golding utilizes a number of different adaptable symbols within the story to show how the schoolboys are transformed by their new life on the otherwise unpopulated island. Fire, for instance, represents hope and safety during the early stages of the novel. This is proven through dialogue in which Ralph, the newly elected leader of the group, addresses the assembly of children before him and proclaims that, “We can help them find us… we must make smoke on the top of the mountain. We must make a fire” (Golding 38). Ralph’s statement that by making a fire, they “can help them find us” shows that the primary purpose of the fire is to help them be rescued and returned to safety, consequently indicating that the fire symbolizes safety.…
