Reading workshops provide a different frame of thinking for students learning to read. In this Reading Pull-out schedule teachers begin the instruction through mini-lessons. These short lessons help teach students reading concepts that they may need review on or may need to learn. Mini-lessons can be taught in large group, small group, or individualized instruction levels, according to the needs of the students. These mini-lessons are then applied to what the students are reading during this pull-out and apply their new knowledge to other subjects. These workshops are student driven and provide reading programs tailored to each student. Students are able to choose books they are interested in, and read these books independently. Allowing students to choose their own books gets students excited about reading, encouraging them to read more. During the activity/lesson portion of this schedule students are able to apply what they have learned through the mini-lessons.
