The Puget Sound War was from 1855-1856. This essay explains how an important treaty was broken and how that started the war. It also talks about how the war dragged on for an entire year, mainly because of the white people.
The war was caused because the American Settlers, or white people, broke the rules of a treaty they had with the Native American Indians. This treaty, called “Treaty of Medicine Creek,” stated that 9 tribes of Native American Indians, including the Nisqually tribe, could have the lands lying around Puget Sound. The white people invaded that land at least once, which was against the rules of the treaty. Because they invaded, the white people were afraid the Native American Indians were going to start an uprising. Scared of the potential uprising, the white settlers created 4 companies of soldiers to attack the Native American Indians. The war started very quickly after that.

Instead, they should have just prepared for the possible Indian uprising, and accepted the damage they had caused. They then decided to take control of the Indians’ territory, which they had previously gave to them through the treaty, and this just made the conflict worse. The Indians were eventually tired of the white people living in their land and being in control of it, so they left their own homes. The white people then chased the Indians all over the country, harassing them along the way. Overall, if the white people would have just followed the rules of the treaty, or at least held off on sending in soldiers, this conflict probably wouldn’t have happened what so ever, or it might have been a small argument rather than a
