* For the most part home life and the overall culture of Puerto Rico is fairly similar to that of the U.S., so gestures and eye contact norms are similar. With this said, there are some areas that differ. For instance, most schools have a uniform requirement in Puerto Rico, especially the private schools. So, for a teacher there would not be any problems with eye contact, gestures, or any other social norm. The only thing that must be understood when dealing with a Puerto Rican student is that the student may not always have the same personal space a teacher would expect from other students. But it should not be viewed as being disrespectful.
